Read Fort Worth was honored to take part in the 15th Annual State of Public Education Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at the Cendera Center. Executive Director Anel Mercado participated in the panel discussion alongside FWISD Superintendent Dr. Kent P. Scribner, Fort Worth Mayor Betsy Price and Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath. The panel was moderated by Fort Worth Chamber Senior VP of Talent Dr. Anthony Edwards.

The discussion included how Fort Worth ISD is preparing tomorrow’s work force and how the community’s early literacy campaign is tied to lifelong success. Fort Worth ISD also shared the new annual report and a short video, both entitled “You Belong Here,” as Dr. Scribner talks about the collective impact model, engaging all sectors of the community around a common goal.

Among the highlights from the panel discussion:

Dr. Scribner: “We can import talent but we cannot export poverty.”

Mayor Price: “We never can import all the talent we need to fuel our economy; we have to grow our own.”
