Limited English Proficiency (LEP): “Students of limited English proficiency” means a student whose primary language is other than English and whose English language skills are such that the student has difficulty performing ordinary classwork in English. TEC §29.052(1)

Testing in Grades 3-8: A student identified as LEP shall participate in the grades 3-8 assessment and shall be administered the general form of the English-version state assessment, unless other exceptions have been made.

Economically Disadvantaged: An economically disadvantaged student is defined as one who is eligible for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch and Child Nutrition Program.

Reading on Grade Level: The percentage of third-graders who scored at the “Final Recommended” level on the Texas STAAR reading test. This is a higher standard than the “passing” or “approaches” standards measurement, according to the Texas Education Agency.
