Bright Spots: Read Fort Worth and Fort Worth Chamber appreciating teachers

A perfect cup of coffee. A sparkling glass of tea. A freshly-baked donut.

Most of all, a sincere and heartfelt “Thank You” to our teachers.

Read Fort Worth and the Fort Worth Chamber, along with a number of local foundations, teamed up to show their appreciation for the continued hard work and dedication of Fort Worth ISD teachers with two days of free offerings at five local businesses.

As part of national Teacher Appreciation Week, FWISD teachers can receive a free food or coffee item Thursday, May 7-Friday, May 8 at Dough Boy Donuts, Leaves Book & Tea Shop, Black Coffee, Craftwork Coffee Co., and Buon Giorno Coffee. FWISD teachers can select one participating location and follow instructions at http://readfortworth.org/WeHeartTeachers/ for information for ordering. Teachers must present their FWISD ID to redeem the offer.

“Five local businesses have stepped up,” Read Fort Worth Executive Director Elizabeth Brands said during a Facebook Live chat with Mayor Price. “They are each offering free food, coffee or beverage to all Fort Worth ISD teachers. … We just want to spread some joy and kindness into our community. At any one day this can all feel like a lot, and we know our teachers are the rock stars of what happens in these schools and we want to take a moment to make sure we are saying, ‘Thank you!'”

Thanks to the financial support of The Miles Foundation, The Morris Foundation, Rainwater Charitable Foundation, and Holloway Family Foundations, all costs to the businesses will be covered to support the local economy and honor the amazing investment that FWISD’s teachers make to prepare students for success, specifically by teaching them to read.

Also as part of Teacher Appreciation Week, Read Fort Worth partnered with Raise Your Hand Texas to support events for teachers throughout the week (https://teacherscan.org/events/). Read Fort Worth’s social media drive throughout the week included the hashtags #TeachersCan and #ThankATeacher.
